On Wednesday morning, June 16, the Johnson County law enforcement officers participated in the Special Olympics/Law Enforcement Torch Run. This event consists of the torch being carried across the state, to the games, by law enforcement agencies.

Multiple deputies ran across our county to hand the torch over to the Pope County group. The runners representing the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office included Deputies Levi White, Dylan Jackson, Jennifer Mclemore and TJ  Evans.

Johnson County Sheriff’s Office officials would also like to recognize Lamar Police Officer Joel Ostendorf, who ran with them. They stated, “Ostendorf represented the 55+ age group and made old cops everywhere proud! He ran the whole way, never needing his motorized chair, oxygen or first responders. We're gonna get him a Golden Corral buffet gift certificate, so he can go eat dinner at 3 p.m. with all the other "early birds".
