On Friday, March 19, 2021, Pope County deputies responded to a suspicious incident involving a vehicle in a pond. Upon arrival, deputies located items belonging to children floating in the pond. At that time, a Pope County deputy made his way into the water to search for anyone who may have been in the vehicle. A short time later, Pope County OEM arrived and conducted an extensive search, but did not find anyone in or around the vehicle. After speaking with witnesses, it was determined that a woman and two small children had been in the vehicle, but had exited the vehicle.
While continuing their investigation, on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, Pope County Sheriff’s Office investigators located the adult female and the two juveniles. They were then transported to the Pope County Sheriff’s Office and the woman was interviewed concerning the situation.
DHS was called to speak with the children. The woman was subsequently arrested and booked into the Pope County Detention Center for the charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
