The Dover Lady Pirates varsity softball team traveled to Harrison this past weekend, Saturday, April 3rd to compete in the Ozark’s Softball Classic tournament. The varsity team returned home Saturday night after winning the championship game and was awarded the title of champions of the 2021 Miss Ozark’s Classic Softball Tournament. The tournament was held April 2nd and 3rd at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison.
The Lady Pirates played their first game of the double elimination tournament on Saturday morning, April 3rd against the Valley Springs Tigers, a division 3A team and took the win with the final score of 3-0.
After winning their first game, the Lady Pirates advanced in the winner’s bracket and faced the Harrison Goblins, a division 4A team, on Saturday afternoon.
During the second game, the Lady Pirates stopped Harrison’s high powered offense with excellent pitching and solid defense finishing the game 3-1 over the Goblins. The Lady Pirates maintained their momentum as they advanced to the championship game to face the 5A Batesville Pioneers.
The championship game began at 7 p.m. with a coin toss on Saturday night on Cavender’s Field at the Equity Bank Sports Complex.
Although the Batesville Pioneers took the lead by one during their first at bat, the Lady Pirates displayed their talents by scoring several runs the first two innings while holding the Pioneers to 1. As the game continued, the Lady Pirates continued to hold the Pioneers at bay by turning up the heat, displaying their strong hitting skills, great defense, and outstanding pitching.
The championship game ended with the Dover Lady Pirates defeating the 5A Batesville Goblins, 13-1.
