According to Dardanelle School District Superintendent John Thompson, a Dardanelle school resource officer has been dismissed from his on-campus position after leaving his gun in an elementary restroom. The incident occurred at the Dardanelle Primary School. According to reports, the gun was discovered in a restroom of the elementary school.

The superintendent stated that the gun was "found in a restroom that is located next to a nurse's office and mostly used by staff, however, students do use it sometimes."

The incident happened weeks ago, but school officials released information about it for the first time on Wednesday, January 9. Although the officer is no longer a school resource officer, the officer does remain employed by the Yell County Sheriff's Office.

The identity of the officer was not released.
