For a third time, a former high school basketball coach has been arrested accused of charges that stem from a Conway Police Department investigation that began in May concerning the findings of inappropriate images and videos of underage females and inappropriate text messages.  The investigation began after an image of a nude underage female was discovered on his phone while it was being repaired at a business in Conway.

Ryan Smith, 32 of Conway, former Danville and Horatio basketball coach is back in custody after a third warrant was issued for his arrest on Friday, June 11, 2021.

Smith was out on pretrial release after he was arrested by the Conway Police Department on May 27, 2021 accused of 35 counts Computer Child Pornography and for additional charges of Computer Child Pornography and Video Voyeurism that were filed in Yell County Circuit Court.

Following a bond hearing in Faulkner County, Smith bonded out of the Faulkner County Detention Center after probable cause was found in holding him on the felony charges and bond was set. The Faulkner County judge set Smith’s bond for $250,000 during the bond hearing and after posting the ordered bond, Smith was released from the jail, but transported to the Yell County Detention Center in Danville where he was served the Yell County warrant. Smith was then booked on the charges Computer Child Pornography and Video Voyeurism.

On Thursday, June 3, 2021, Smith appeared in a felony bond hearing by video in Yell County Circuit Court. During the hearing, testimony was offered by a Conway Police Department detective and  Judge Jerry Don Ramey determined probable cause to hold Smith on the charges. Judge Ramey ordered Smith’s bond in the amount of $500,000.

On the afternoon of June 3rd, Smith posted the ordered bond and was released from the Yell County Detention Center pending his next appearance in court, a plea arraignment hearing, that was set to be held in August.

On Friday, June 11, 2021, Sevier County officials filed documents in Sevier County Circuit Court and a warrant was issued for Smith’s arrest for the felony charge of Attempted Internet Stalking of a Child.

The Sevier County investigation began after the Conway Police Department discovered explicit conversations between Smith and another adult female who discussed a “fantasy” of Smith’s.

In the texts, Smith continuously speaks to the female, who is the mother of a 15-year-old and requests that she allow them to simultaneously have sex with her 15-year-old daughter.

The text messages included Smith explaining his fantasy and the mother allegedly agrees to allow this sexual encounter to happen.

As the text messages continue, the mother then goes into explicit detail of what Smith should do to both her and her daughter and how it should be done. Although it is unknown if the encounter occurred, once discovering the correspondence, the Conway Police Department turned over the information and evidence to Sevier County authorities and it was investigated.

On Thursday, July 10, the mother who agreed to the arrangement with her daughter through the text messages, identified as Lori Marshall, 40, who is also a First Grade teacher at Horatio Elementary, was arrested facing the charge of Attempted Internet Stalking of a Child. A day following Marshall’s arrest and after being free for eight days, Smith was also arrested and faces the same charge.

Smith was booked into the Sevier County Detention Center just before 8 p.m. Friday, June 11th.

He is currently being held awaiting his appearance in a felony bond hearing where a judge will set his bond.

Authorities state that the investigations are continuing at this time.
