Pope County Quorum Court met for the first meeting of the year on January 3, 2019. The meeting was a first for Ben Cross as the presiding County Judge.

County Treasurer Larry Holman reported that interest earned on the county checking accounts was $355,344.58 in 2018, up from $178,375.36 in 2017. Judge Cross recognized the increase and commented that “it’s Larry’s due diligence that did this.” Treasurer Holman bid out checking accounts for the county to obtain the best interest rate returns.

The county will dedicate the Senator Greg Standridge portion of the highway at 2 p.m. on January 4, 2019. The portion is located approximately one half mile north of the Weir Road Exchange.

Justice Caleb Moore presented Judge Cross with a basket full of office supplies purchased collectively by the Justices in a lighthearted gesture to welcome the new Judge.

The following appropriations were made as corrections to the budget for risk management corrections with Arkansas Association of Counties.

l $365.85 from the 911 fund for the OEM Department

l $7,516.57 from the EMS fund for the EMS Department

l $24,566.70 from the Road Fund for the Road Department

l $37,944.74 from the General Fund for the County Judge, Circuit Court Judges, Election Commission, Sheriff, Juvenile Probation, Detention Center, Coroner, Agri Extension, and Veterans Departments
