On February 20, 2021, at approximately 7 p.m., Pottsville Police Department assisted a Pope County Sheriff’s deputy on a traffic stop at the intersection of South Frankfort Avenue and State Highway 247.
Officers became suspicious of the identity given to them by the passenger. Arkansas State Police assisted by bringing a fingerprint scan to the traffic stop and it was then determined that the male passenger (Jose Reyna Jr.) who had identified himself to the deputy as another name, had failed to comply as a Level III Sex Offender. It was later determined by a Pottsville Police Officer that he had been living in the City of Pottsville for the last six months.
The deputy arrested Jose Reyna Jr. for Obstructing Government Operations and transported him to Pope County Detention Center. The Pottsville Police Department placed Reyes on a Felony Hold for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in the City of Pottsville.
The Pottsville Police Department would like to extend a special thanks to Pope County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police with assisting with the investigation.
On Monday, February 22, Jose Reyna Jr. appeared in a felony bond hearing facing the charges of Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements and Obstruction of Governmental Operations. During the bond hearing, he was ordered to be held on bond in the amount of $15,000. At the time of this story, Jose Reyna Jr. remained in custody at the Pope County Detention Center.
