According to Morrilton Police Department Assistant Chief Trent Anderson, on Thursday, August 26, a suspect was arrested following the theft of a 2016 Nissan Rogue from Harps in Morrilton on Tuesday afternoon August 24th. At the time of the theft,an Australian Shepard service dog named Koko was inside the vehicle. 

The suspect, identified as Leotis Harris, 23 of Morrilton, was taken into custody for the theft of the vehicle.

Shortly after Harris was arrested, officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle abandon in a parking lot in Little Rock. Unfortunately, officers located Koko deceased inside the vehicle. 

Harris was booked into the Conway County Detention Center and charged with the theft of the vehicle as well as felony animal cruelty. 

Assistant Chief Anderson would like to thank Morrilton PD officers and the public for the effort that they put into locating Koko. Anderson stated in closing, “Our thoughts are with Koko’s family and we are sorry for their loss.”
