At approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, September 12, the Dardanelle Police Department, Pinnacle EMS and the Dardanelle City Fire Department were dispatched to the area of the 500 block on Union Street on a rollover entrapment motor vehicle accident. The accident involved a single vehicle, a blue Jeep Liberty. The Jeep’s driver, an unidentified female, was reportedly injured and trapped inside the SUV. Upon the arrival of officers, they found the vehicle upside down, resting on it’s roof in the roadway. The SUV received heavy damage in the crash and the driver was found inside the vehicle. Officers made contact with the driver who advised them that she was unable to exit the vehicle. Due to the entrapment, the Dardanelle City Fire Department was dispatched to perform extrication efforts. As firefighters checked en route to the location, they were cancelled by officers who advised that the driver was able to free her legs after they were trapped and she was able to exit the vehicle. The injured driver was then evaluated by Pinnacle EMS personnel on scene and transported to the Dardanelle Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and for treatment of the injuries she had sustained. Entergy officials were also requested to respond to the scene due to the SUV striking and damaging a utility pole along Union Street. Following the crash, the broken pole was held together by a single metal band that was keeping the pole and power lines from falling onto the roadway. Dardanelle Police officers worked traffic control through the area while the crash was investigated and some residents traveling through the area experienced delays. After officers completed their investigation of the accident, they continued traffic control while waiting on the arrival of Entergy. It is believed that the accident occurred as the Jeep traveled south on Union Street in the outside lane, when the vehicle drifted to the right, struck the curb and then struck the utility pole located near the 300 block of Union Street. After hitting and breaking the pole, the driver attempted to steer the Jeep to the left and then over corrected to the right, hitting another curb near the 500 block. Upon striking the curb, the impact caused the Jeep to rollover onto its roof, injuring and trapping the driver inside. The Jeep came to rest in the middle of both southbound lanes of Union Street, blocking traffic. After the debris caused by the accident and the vehicle were removed from the roadway, Entergy officials arrived on scene to begin the necessary repairs to the utility pole. Just after 9 p.m. Saturday night, the Dardanelle City Fire Department was dispatched to the areas of 2nd Street and Union Street and 5th Street and Union Street to assist in traffic control through the area as Entergy completed the necessary repairs. At approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, Dardanelle City firefighters returned back to their station available for service and a short time later, traffic was allowed to resume as normal on Union Street, in the area where the accident had occurred. At this time, the identity of the driver, the injuries she sustained in the accident and her current condition are unknown.
