Traffic on East Parkway Drive was detoured for about an hour on Monday evening, February 3 after a multi-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of East Parkway Drive and Weir Road. At 5:41 p.m. the Russellville Police Department, Russellville Fire Department and Pope County EMS were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision with entrapment that occurred on East Parkway Drive at the intersection of Weir Road. Pope County EMS was first to arrive on scene and upon their arrival, EMS personnel made contact with the drivers of a Ford F-150 and a Chrysler 300. The vehicles were disabled in the collision and were blocking the roadway. Upon making contact with the vehicles occupants, EMS personnel advised dispatch there was no entrapment. RPD officers arrived on scene and learned that a total of four vehicles were in the involved in crash, a 2007 Toyota Corolla, a 2001 Toyota Camry, a 2009 Ford F-150 and a 2015 Chrysler 300. Once in scene, RFD firefighters assisted EMS in making contact with all of the drivers and occupants of the vehicles involved and began evaluating their injuries. After speaking to the drivers and occupants in the collision, all individuals advised medical personnel they were not injured and they all refused treatment or transport by EMS. RPD officers began investigating the collision and took statements from the individuals involved in the crash and from witnesses. While speaking to the driver of the Chrysler, officers suspected the driver was impaired and asked him to step out of the vehicle. After administering a breathalyzer test, officers determined the driver was intoxicated and at that time, he was placed into custody. Following an investigation of the collision, officers determined that the crash occurred as the Chrysler was traveling east on East Parkway Drive and was following the Toyota Corolla as it also traveled east. As the vehicles approached the intersection of Weir Road, the Chrysler struck the Toyota Corolla in the rear, forcing the Corolla to hit the 2001 Toyota Camry that was turning onto East Parkway Drive. When the Chrysler rear ended the Corolla, the Chrysler traveled left of center, then struck the 2009 Ford F-150. The Chrysler and Ford then came to rest in the middle of the intersection, partially blocking the roadway. After the vehicles were towed from the scene and the debris from the crash was cleared from the roadway, all responders returned available for service. RPD officers transported the driver to the Pope County Detention Center where he was booked for the charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Careless/Negligent Driving, Driving Left of Center, Failure to Obey Red Light, Open Container and Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test.
