The Pottsville Apaches basketball team took down the Batesville Pioneers last night, 57-46. The girls side also got a big win, beating the Lady Pioneers, 57-44.

"The guys came out and really played with a lot of energy tonight. We did a much better job defensively for the most part which also created some offense for us", said coach Garrett Hill.

"Offensively we have to execute better in the half court, but we also had a lot of good possessions and just didn't finish the play or make the shot. It was a good way to finish going into Thanksgiving break."

On the girls side, the Lady Apaches defeated the Batesville Lady Pioneers 57-44 Monday inside George Jones Gymnasium. Pottsville (4-1, 0,0) would get off to a slow start missing shots on their first five possessions, while the Lady Pioneers would go on an early 7-0 run.

Pottsville would end the quarter on a 7-4 run of their own to cut the score to 7-11 at the end of the first. The Lady Apaches lack of offense in the first would filip in the second as they would outscore Batesville 21-6 in the quarter and take a 28-17 lead into the half.

The third quarter would be a back and forth battle with Batesville taking the quarter 15-11 to cut the Lady Apache lead to 39-32. Pottsville would extend the lead in the forth with good late game free throw shooting to out score Batesville 18-12 and take the game, 57-44.

Leading scorers for the Lady Apaches were Rylie Irwin with 18 points, Harmony Garner with 14 points, Alyson Greathouse with 9 points, Annleigh Pennington 7 points, Kennedy Corbin with 7 points, and Tawnie Sweeden with 2 points.
The Lady Apaches will begin their 4-4A conference season on the return from Thanksgiving break,  traveling to Mena December 2nd. Sr Girls tip-off is scheduled for 6:00.
