RSD Athletic Director Johnny Johnson has announced his retirement from the Russellville School District, effective at the end of the contract year.
Johnson, a longtime staff member at Russellville, has been at the helm of RSD athletics for ten years and will now enter retirement leaving RSD athletics in a much better spot.
"I think coming to Russellville was big for multiple reasons. I knew that they were in need of big facilities and that’s been one of the best things that I feel like we’ve upgraded since I’ve been here", said Johnson. We’ve upgraded multiple facilities, including the new Cyclone Arena and the indoor football facility improvements."
Johnson has been a part of many successful hirings, paving the way for the student athletes to be a part of the multiple championships in numerous sports across the district.
"Russellville is very blessed. We have such a good business community that supports our programs like they do. We have awesome booster clubs that help our kids and coaches not have to want for anything. Our community is very giving. It’s been a blessing to work in a community that gives back."
RSD is losing a great asset to the athletics department and Mr. Johnson will be greatly missed by many who played and coached with him. Mr. Johnson estimates that they've surpassed 15 state championships during his tenure.
"We've been able to enhance the opportunities for our students athletes to be able to do anything they set their mind to", concluded Johnson.
Congratulations on a fantastic career and we wish you an amazing retirement, Mr. Johnson!
