The Arkansas Activities Association has come out with conference alignments for the 2020-2022 cycle and there is some movement for local teams and their opponents.
The biggest moves for area teams are Lamar will play in the 4A-4 in football along with Pottsville, Ozark, Dardanelle, Subiaco Academy, Mena, Waldron, and Dover. Lamar will play 3A in all other sports.
Also, for the first time in many years Dover will play 3A in all other sports but will still be in the 4A-4 for football. Finally, Danville moves up to 3A in all sports for the 2020-2022 cycle.
The 3A conference would include Atkins, Dover, Lamar, Danville, Baptist Prep, Jessieville, Mayflowr, Perryville and Two Rivers for basketball.
One other big move for an area school is that Western Yell County has opted for eight man football for the 2020-2022 cycle. This gives Arkansas eight teams of eight man football.
Russellville stays in their current set up as they are 6A in football, but 5A in all other sports. Russellville has been competitive in their current set up making the state tournament in football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, and soccer.
The 6A West in football will have Benton, Greenwood, Lake Hamilton, LR Parkview, Mountain Home, Siloam Springs Van Buren, and Russellville. While the 5A West for all other sports will include Alma, Greenbrier, Greenwood, Mountain Home, Siloam Springs, Van Buren, Vilonia and Russellville.
There will be a final meeting about the conference alignments where schools can petition to be in a situation that they may put them in a different position. The anticipation is that there will not be any movement for schools in the area.
