The Russellville Cyclones lost control of a 19-point lead twice and needed last-second heroics to defeated the Greenbrier Panthers 50-49 on Tuesday in Greenbrier.

The Panthers tied the score on a free throw with 2.4 seconds left in the game. Russellville inbounded the ball, moved the floor and drained a 3-pointer by Donyae May on the buzzer to improve to 2-0 in the 5A-West.

Russellville entered the game on a three-win streak. The Cyclones led by 19 points at two different times in the second quarter. Greenbrier shot 15-of-20 from the free throw line.

Russellville took a 24-8 lead by the end of the first layup. Greenbrier scored the opening bucket, but Grayson Sims hit back-to-back buckets to put the Cyclones up 4-2. Caleb Carter's three-point play, combined with a 3-pointer from Hayes Vines made it 10-4. A pair of buckets from Donyae May opened the Russellville advantage to 18-6.

Caleb Carter hit his ninth three of the season to go up 24-8 early in the second quarter.

Sims hit a 3-pointer with 5:14 left in the half to make it 33-12.

Russellville's lead dwindled to nine points with 2:28 left in the half.

May hit a layup to push it to 35-26, but the Panthers made it 35-26 by halftime.

Early in the third quarter, Greenbrier pulled within six points.

Vines his a layup with 3:44 left in the quarter to make it 39-31.

The Panthers quickly answered to pull within 39-36. By the end of the third, Greenbrier was within 41-38.

The Panthers tied the game on a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter.

May scored back to back buckets to make it 45-41, following a massive block by Cam Frazier. May drew a foul on his second shot but missed his free throw.

The Panthers pulled within 45-43 with 3:47 with a pair of free throws, then a blocking charge against Sims put Greenbrier on the line a minute later. The Panthers hit both shots to tie the score with 2:57 left.

Greenbrier took a 47-45 lead with 1:32 left in the game.

May went to the free-throw line with just over a minute left to tie the game.

With 2.7 seconds left in the game, the officials called a foul against Russellville. The free throws put Greenbrier up 49-47

May finished the game with 23 points.

Russellville improved to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the 5A-West.

Russellville hosts Alma at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
