The Russellville Cyclones tennis team defeated the Greenwood Bulldogs 7-1 in a road match on Thursday. The Cyclones won 4-0, winning both the varsity singles and doubles competition for the first time this year. The Lady Cyclones won 3-1, losing only the No. 1 doubles match.

The singles play of both the boys and girls remains dominate with Paige Davis regaining her 2020 form.

"Doubles play is improving as both the boys and girls teams are gaining experience," Russellville head coach Bill Rowlett said. "Everyone came out ready to play against the West sports powerhouse rival Bulldogs. The doubles matches were tight and exciting to watch. It was some of the best tennis of the year and a good tune up for the 5A conference tournament beginning on Sept. 27 at Russellville.

"Players of the game were Landon Meimerstorf for the boys, winning the No. 2 doubles match with his partner Dev Donda. For the girl’s player of the game, Avery Alford won her 22 straight match at No. 2 singles in a tight game to avoid a tie breaker."

Russellville will continue the 5A Conference season at 4 p.m. Thursday at Van Buren.
